Thomas William Franklin, 80, passed from this life Friday, Feb. 28, 2014. Funeral: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Western Hills Church of Christ. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood. The youngest of five children, Thomas was born Dec. 12, 1933, to James Lesley and Audrey Rice Franklin at the family's home on a peanut farm near May. He attended May High School where he played football. After graduation he joined the U.S. Navy
and later enjoyed talking about his time in Hawaii and on Midway Island. Following his military service he returned to the family's farm for a while before eventually moving to Fort Worth where he became a valued employee in the printing industry. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents and great-grandson, Jude Franklin. Survivors: Wife of 38 years, Sandra Franklin; their children, Thomas Franklin Jr. (Melissa), Shauna Franklin, Krista Spiers (Greg) and Lisa Little (Jerry); beloved grandchildren, Aaron and Stephanie Franklin, Jackson and Ledger Little, and Cooper and Rhett Spiers; great-grandchildren, Scott and Oliver Franklin; brother, J.L. Franklin; sisters, Rosalee McDaniels (Marion), Margorie Chupp and Joyce Strickland; in-laws, H.H. Rhode, Ralph and Kathy Meredith; numerous dearly loved nephews and nieces; and lest we forget, he is also survived by his sweet four-legged pal, Rusty.
