W.E. "Jack" Carlton passed away Friday, April 11, 2014, in Rio Vista. Memorial service: 2 p.m. Wednesday in Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Mr. Carlton was born March 28, 1930, in Brownwood. He was an author, historian and a volunteer for historical preservation. He served in the United States Marine Corps
and the United States Army from 1948-1953. He was a conductor for the Santa Fe Railroad, retiring with 42 years of service. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 57 years, Walda Rene Doyle Carlton. Survivors: His wife, Darlene B. Carlton of Rio Vista; children, Debbie Lindsey of Joshua and Carla Cromeens and husband, Eddie, of Arlington; grandchildren, Kelli Manning and husband, Tommy, of Joshua, Cade Lindsey and wife, Melissa, of Burleson, Angie Summers and husband, Randy, and Jacob Phinney and wife, Shayna, all of Cleburne; stepchildren, Clay Tolbert of Rio Vista and Elaine Policicchio of Merced, Calif.; sister, Neta Billings of Kilgore; and numerous great-grandchildren, extended family and friends.
