William Henry "Bill" Hedlund(1920 - 2013)

William "Bill" Henry Hedlund, 93, a loving and devoted husband, Christian, father and friend, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 5, 2013. Service: Family and friends will share their fondest memories about Bill's life at 2 p.m. Thursday in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Lane A. Bill was born March 22, 1920, in Duluth, Minn., and a longtime resident of North Texas, having moved here in 1946 while serving in the Navy. He retired from the Navy with the rank of chief petty officer and served in World War II in the South Pacific. After the military, Bill worked for Bell Helicopter until he retired in 2005. During his tenure at Bell, he successfully led many of the food drives. His love for baseball was evident in his coaching and managing many players and teams throughout the years. He was instrumental in establishing the American Legion baseball program in Arlington during the early 1960s. Bill was a member of the American Legion, Veteran of Foreign Wars, Elks and Masons. Survivors: His wife of 31 years, Wanda Hedlund of North Richland Hills; sons, Mike Hedlund and wife, Mary, and Steve Hedlund and wife, Patty; daughters, Susie Duncan and husband, Ted, and Pat Reimers; stepdaughter, Debra Soule and husband, Ron; stepsons, Tony Hardin, Steve Hardin and Pat Hardin; 24 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
