Francis Kane Obituary

Francis J. "Red" Kane, 93, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, March 29, 2016. Funeral: 3 p.m. Saturday at Moore Funeral Home, 1219 N. Davis Drive, Arlington. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, Red would hope that you would do one spontaneous act of kindness for another in his name. Alternately, you can donate to Meals on Wheels at www.mowaa.org, or to a charity of choice. Red was blessed with the love of two wonderful women, Marilyn, his beloved wife of 33 years, and Lorna, his first wife, also of 33 years, who passed in 1981. He had three children, Carol, Candy and Lorne and wife, Vicki; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Red never met a stranger, loved to tell stories and could learn everything about a person in the course of an elevator ride. He was known for his silent generosity, graceful dancing, ice skating, love of cookies and flirting with a pretty girl. He grew up in Stratford, Canada, and was one of the last surviving players from the "Original Six" NHL hockey teams, the Detroit Red Wings. Red and Lorna settled in Fort Worth, and then Arlington in 1952 and became U.S. citizens in 1958. Red was on the Arlington Parks and Recreation Board for 18 years, chairing from 1976 to 1981. In his honor, the F.J. "Red" Kane Park was dedicated in 1995. Red lived the remainder of his life in Arlington, with yearly visits to family and friends in Canada.

PapaRed or as most of you know him as red , was my great grandpa. For him great is an understatement. In all my life i have yet to meet somone as caring, giving, and loving as this man. He was for me my rock, my happy-place when i had good news and my shelter when I was upset. I dont believe i will meet another human being as amazing as this man. He was my first true love and the best great grandpa and grand daughter could ask for. I love you papared, forever and always <3

We just found out that Red had passed. We now live in Burleson and do not get Arlington news. Red and Lorna were amazing neighbors on College Oaks, as were Carol, Candy, and Lorne. It was always fun to watch Red put his ice skates on and skate around the block after an ice storm! Once, our son , John, turned the hose on Lorna. He was about 4. Red said Lorna came in the house, sopping wet, and really MAD! She demanded Red come speak to us about John. Red said he just burst out laughing and told your mom it was all his fault. He said he saw John out playing and soaked him with the hose! He said John was just returning the favor. We were truly horrified at Johns behavior, but your Dad wouldn't allow us to punish him. We did make him apologize though. your Dad was a special man. Our condolences. Judy and john buckler, jenny buckler alley, Jill buckler smith, john Grady buckler

Carol, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. "Red" will always be remembered in the neighborhood for his kind words, talking about how proud he was of his family, and walking his little dog. Vicki McCall
