Evelyn Wells Obituary

Evelyn Lucille Wells, 85, a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away Friday, March 18, 2011. Graveside service: 3 p.m. Monday in Shannon Rose Hill Cemetery. Evelyn was born Aug. 24, 1925, in Fort Worth. She worked at S.H. Kress & Co. before and after graduation from Polytechnic High School and then went on to teach dancing lessons at Lavonia Dance Studio where she met her future husband, Chet Wells. She attended Brantley Draughn Business College and worked at Millers Mutual Fire Insurance Co. Later, she attended Fort Worth Christian College, El Centro College and TCJC NE, where she received two associate degrees. On Sept. 3, 1948, she married Chet Newton Wells and assisted him as co-owner of Chet Wells & Co., Inc., an electronics manufacturers representative firm. She was a member of the Richland Hills United Methodist Church for the past 50 years and held many appointments on the administrative board and the Council on Ministries as well as offices in the United Methodist Women. She was active in the Friends of the Library of Richland Hills, served on the library board, was active in the Richland Athletic Association and was a Den mother in the Boy Scouts of America. She spent quite a number of her later years working in her primary interests with various youth groups which were the First Texas Council of Camp Fire, the parent booster organizations that assisted the Richland High area school bands, Richland High School Dixie Belles Drill Team and various PTA groups. She was awarded a life membership with he PTA. She was past president of the Fort Worth Chapter of Parliamentary Law, past regent of the Fort Worth Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, past president of General Edward H. Tarrant Chapter of the National Society U.S. Daughters of 1812, member of the Honorable Phillip Livingston Chapter of the Daughters of the American Colonists, Society Daughters of Colonial Wars, Colonial Dames of XVII Century, Julia Jackson Jackson 141 Daughters of the Confederacy, was past queen of Rithmah Temple 93 Daughters of the Nile and helped establish the Center for Computer Assistance to the Disabled (C-Cad). Mrs. Wells was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years Chet Wells; daughter, Deborah Jeanee; parents, Eva Louise and Mr. George W. Newell; adopted father, Casey Willis; sister, Margaret Roselle Smith Brodie; and grandson, Jeremy Adam Wells. She leaves to cherish her memory her sons and daughter-in-laws, Dr. C. Edward Wells and Melinda of Dallas, Dr. Guy A. Wells and Stephanie of Lubbock, R. Kent Wells of Denver, Mike A. Wells and Brandi of Frisco; 12 grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jennifer and Michael Wells of Dallas, Austin, Preston, and McKenzie of Frisco, Stacey, Tiffany, and Alan Wells of Lubbock, Justin Wells of Denver, CO, and Lysha Wells Standford and husband Rob of Auborn, AL; 2 great-grandsons, Andrew and Trey Standford of Auburn, AL; niece, Pam Latham; and nephew, Tony Smith. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Wells requests that donations be made to Richland Hills United Methodist Church, 7301 Glenview Drive, North Richland Hills, 76180.

No one knows the sorrow felt in your footsteps during this time. My Brother, I can relate. It will get better with prayer.
