Bobby Ray Newman, 65, passed away Monday, April 28, 2014, after losing a brief but courageous battle with leukemia. Funeral: 11 a.m. Friday in Laurel Land Memorial Chapel. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Laurel Land Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests blood and platelet donations be made at a local Carter Blood Center, or donations may be made in Bobby's name to Speedway Children's Charities, texasmotorspeedway.com. Bobby was born April 14, 1949, in Poteet to Woodrow and Althea Newman. A devoted son, brother, husband, father and grandfather, Bobby was well known in his south Fort Worth community and was loved by all. He was a man of many interests and coached his children's ball teams through the years. He was a collector of arrowheads, baseball cards, marbles and loved gardening beautiful flowers in his yard. He also loved traveling to West Virginia and making beautiful marbles with his friends. And his greatest joy was spending time with his grandson, Ray, whom he adored. He was a graduate of Howard Payne University with a bachelor of science degree. Survivors: Although he will be greatly missed, his memory will live on through his loving wife of 41 years, Vivian; children, Bobby Ray Jr. and his wife, Kim, of Fort Worth, Neysa Diane Richards and her husband, Rusty, of Groton, Conn., and Amanda Leigh Longhenry and her husband, Michael; his much-adored grandchild, Ray, and unborn grandchild, Daniel Ray, all of Fort Worth, Marquis Washington and his wife, Kayla, and son, Mekhi, of Fort Worth; brothers, Woody and wife, Donna, of Houston, James and wife, Linda, of Pleasanton and Gary of Dallas; and many loving nieces, nephews and marble friends all over the United States.
