Ida Jean Rogers was born Aug. 11, 1924, in Monmouth, Ill., the middle child of Berne Powell and Emma Rebecca Hughes. Jean's father was a meteorologist for the U.S. government and the family had the opportunity to reside in numerous locations throughout her childhood. One of those locations was Missoula, Mont., where she met a little 8-year-old boy who would be the love of her life and a union of marriage that lasted for over 66 years until Jean's passing. Herb and Jean married Oct. 29, 1944, during Herb's short leave from the Air Force while serving in World War II. Jean always took great pride in her role of serving her country during World War II as a riveter for Hughes Tool Company in Houston. Herb and Jean have three children, six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Jean often spoke of what a full and wonderful life she had led from her travels around the world, including Herb's job and yearly family trips to tropical destinations. The love during the latter 30 years of her life was her Arabian horses as a family endeavor known worldwide as Kehilan Arabians. Jean was adored throughout the Egyptian Arabian horse community and left a renowned breeding program that will be carried on by her family. Jean will be remembered for her twinkling blue eyes, sense of humor, wonderful smile and a heart as big as Texas. Jean was devoted to her family and played an important role involved in every aspect of her children's, grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's lives and taught them to live life at its fullest. Jean and Herb together left a legacy and standard for their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren that will never be surpassed. The family will not be the same without her, but she will be with us in every laugh, every tear and every memory from now until we meet again. She was truly a treasure that will shine brightly in her family and friends. The family would like to thank her caregivers, Valerie, Christina, Mabel, Bethany and MaryAnn, for being her special angels that came into her life at her time of need. They will always hold a special place in our hearts. A special appreciation to Covenant Hospice for their compassion and a very special appreciation to Dr. Barbara Birdwell for her many years of compassionate care and love. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Berne and Emma; brother and sister-in-law, Stuart and June Hughes; sister and brother-in-law, Claire and Jim Schultz; and grandson, Jonathan Rogers. Survivors: Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 66 years Herbert; daughter, Rebecca; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Bill; son, Stuart; grandchildren, Stephen, Chris, Brian, Amy, Veronica and their spouses; special friend, Janice; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and friends worldwide.
