James N. "Jim" Neill Obituary
James "Jim" N. Neill, M.D., passed away Friday, May 23, 2014, at his Dallas home following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Memorial service: Jim's life will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, at Scofield Memorial Church in Dallas. Interment: Has been held in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts honoring James Neill may be made to Scofield Memorial Church, 7730 Abrams Road, Dallas, Texas 75231. Jim was born April 16, 1944, in Fort Worth to the late Mary Belle and Jack Neill. He grew up in Everman and graduated as valedictorian from Everman High School in 1962. After high school, Jim attended the University of Texas at Austin where he graduated with high honors and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He graduated from UT Southwestern Medical School in 1970 and completed his internship at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas in 1971. Jim achieved the rank of captain in the U.S. Air Force and served as an Air Force flight surgeon in Vietnam during 1971-1973. After Vietnam, he completed his residency in diagnostic radiology at Baylor of Dallas. He then joined Diagnostic Radiology Associates of Dallas at St. Paul Hospital where he practiced for 29 years. Jim, a gentle spirit with a big heart and dry wit, retired in 2004 to pursue a variety of interests, which included crossword puzzles (always in ink), Longhorns football, Texas Rangers baseball, "Jeopardy" (often answering more questions correctly than the contestants), jigsaw puzzles in Red River, N.M., and "Words with Friends." He especially enjoyed being with his beloved grandsons, Spencer and Brayden. Jim was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Everman. Later he attended Scofield Memorial Church in Dallas where he was a member of the Ambassador Class for 31 years. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors: His loving wife of 37 years, Wanda Pedigo Neill; son, Edwin Neill and wife, Debra, of Dallas; grandsons, Spencer Neill and Brayden Neill; sisters and their husbands, Martha Neill Dunlap (Robert) and Nora Neill Bender (Richard); and numerous nieces and nephews.
