Nancy Lee Bass

1917 - 2013 Obituary Condolences
Nancy Lee Bass, 95, matriarch of the Bass family of Fort Worth, died Thursday night at home, according to family spokeswoman Terrell Lamb.

Nancy Lee and Perry Bass had four sons -- Sid, the oldest; Ed, Bob and Lee, all of whom have had an incalculable impact on the city's art, music, museums, schools, hospitals and other institutions through their donations.

"Our mother passed away last night peacefully in her home, seven days shy of her 96th birthday," read a statement from her sons. "Her life spanned ten decades of exceptional love, affection and joy.

"We were blessed to have shared in such a long and rich life, and we know she would want us to express to all our friends her gratitude for their friendship to her family over the years."

Ed Bass named the Nancy Lee and Perry R. Bass Performance Hall in downtown Fort Worth after his parents.

Perry Bass, a philathropist who hosted five presidents at his vacation homes, died in 2006 at age 91.

Only a handful of people have had as much influence on Fort Worth as Perry Bass, who turned his early oilfield ventures with his uncle, Sid Richardson, into a diversified family empire that is today valued in the billions of dollars.

Keenly interested in politics, Mr. Bass hosted five U.S. presidents at San Jose Island - Franklin D. Roosevelt, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Lyndon B. Johnson, George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush.

Funeral arrangements were pending, Lamb said.
