Andrew McCampbell Jones died on Friday, June 28, 2013. Funeral: 3 p.m. Tuesday at Thompson's Harveson & Cole, The Rev. Mike Marshall will preside. Private interment: Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials: Gifts in his memory may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth. Andrew was born July 1, 1930, and spent his early years in Forest Hills, N.Y. His family moved to Kansas City, Mo., when he was 10 years old, and he became active in scouting and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He attended the World Jamboree of Scouting in 1947 in France. His B.A. degree was earned at Dartmouth College in 1951, and he received a master of science from Wichita State University and a Ph.D. in physics from Texas Christian University. His professional career was in the field of research, and he was a charter member of the Arizona Chapter for Electron Microscopy and Microbeam Analysis in 1978. Andrew enjoyed participating in marathons, and he ran the New York Marathon, among others. He participated in tae kwon-do and achieved the status of black belt. The family expresses appreciation to the staff at The Courtyards at Fort Worth Nursing Home and also to Vitas Hospice for their caring services. Andrew was preceded in death by his grandparents, Julia and Andrew McCampbell; parents, Ovid Winfield and Velma Tompkins Jones; and brother, Ovid Winfield Jones Jr. Survivors: His children, Scott McCampbell Jones, Mark Lysell-Jones and wife, Molly, and Lara Gossage and husband, Jason; grandchildren, Marshall Jones, Broderick Gossage, Harrison Gossage and Sara Gossage; former wife, Glenda Franklin; sister, Lila Cockrell; nieces, Carol Gulley and husband, Robert, Cathy Cockrell Newton and husband, John; great-nephew, Dodge Garman; and great-niece, Annalee Gulley.
