Bill McDavid Obituary

Mr. Bill McDavid, who left a career selling cars late in life and found a new one in music, died Friday at his home in Aledo of lung cancer. He was 69.
He was born July 26, 1939, to Bill and Dawn McDavid in Weatherford. Bill Sr. opened his first car dealership in 1946, and Mr. McDavid and his brother, David, grew up to own dealerships across the Metroplex.
Mr. McDavid opened his first General Motors dealership in Fort Worth in 1959 when he was 19, according to Star-Telegram archives. He eventually owned several dealerships.
Over the years, he pursued interests including cutting horses, motorcycles and airplanes, said his cousin Dan Boone of Houston.
In 1992, a heart attack and financial troubles prompted Mr. McDavid to get out of the auto business. He soon threw himself into music. He joined up with longtime friend Freddy Powers in Austin, and the pair began performing as Rogers and Hammerhead.
Survivors include his wife, Sherry McDavid of Aledo; sons Bill McDavid of Fort Worth and Brad McDavid; daughter Michele Napier of Colorado Springs, Colo.; stepson Ian Stewart of Georgetown; mother Dawn Queen McDavid of Weatherford; brother David McDavid of Fort Worth; sisters Deddy Dawn Srimavin and Toni Williams of Aledo, and Kandy Lamb of Irving; and numerous grandchildren.

I am not sure this is still appropriate but I just found this. I worked for Mr. McDavid for 11 years and he made sure his company was my home. He made sure of that and always always took care of his employees.
I know he is having fun up there and I wish his family only the best. Love and wishes...Carla

Bill was a special person, he was introduced to me by a mutual friend and made sure that I was at ease. I lost track of him after he closed the dealership. I will remember him as a fine person.

I would like to offer my condolences to the McDavid family. Bill was such a sweetheart when he came into Silver Fox with his wife Sherry. I was their friendly bartender, both him and his wife were always concerned about my family, always wanting know the latest news, and when my son was in Iraq in the Army, they prayed for him in church for a safe return. I always appreciated that. Bill was a very special person in my heart and I will miss him. God Bless you Bill and your family.

My deepest sympathy to Sherry, Bill, and Brad,Michele, and to
David McDavid. I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Bill. There is
only one Bill McDavid as you can attest to, David. He's smiling down
on all of us, pickin' at that guitar. He was a good friend and a wonderful man even though I didn't get to see him these last years.
I will always miss him, too. Best Wishes. Bob Gunn
