Billy Dale Allen Obituary
Billy Dale Allen passed from this life Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, in Cedar Hill. Service: 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Alvarado. Interment: Glenwood Cemetery in Alvarado. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Clayton Kay-Vaughan Funeral Home in Alvarado. Mr. Allen, the son of Roy C. Allen and Fay Elizabeth Wilson Allen, was born July 23, 1941, in Cleburne. He was a graduate of Alvarado High School, Baylor University, where he earned a BBA, and the University of North Texas, where he completed a master of education in vocational teaching, counseling and administration. He taught and served as vocational director in the Cedar Hill Independent School District for 33 years. From high school through college and in retirement, his love was playing his trombone. As the founder and managing director of the Texas Dixieland Band and Sounding Brass Ensemble, he played at many venues throughout the Metroplex. He was a 24-year member of the Irving Symphonic Band. He also played for the New Orleans Saints Football Band and for the Dallas Cowboys Band at the Cotton Bowl and at Texas Stadium. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Bobby Allen; and his sister, Velma Allen Land. Survivors: His wife of 47 years, Benja L. Allen; sister-in-law, Mary Jo Allen of Luling; first cousins, Eva D. Anderson of Garland, Sara Jane Null of Fort Worth and Dr. Danny Waddell of Colleyville; a niece; and eight nephews.
