Charles Marshall Obituary

Charles Ellison Marshall, 77, passed away Thursday, April 8, 2010.
Memorial service: 2 p.m. Wednesday at The Church on Rush Creek, 2350 SW Green Oaks Blvd., Arlington. Dr. Russ Barksdale officiating. Reception will follow. Interment: 10 a.m. Wednesday in Moore Memorial Gardens. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Pkwy, Arlington.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to The Church on Rush Creek, AHS Alumni Association Scholarship Fund at www.ahscolts-alumni.org, or the Arlington Historical Society, 1616 W. Abram, Arlington, Texas 76013.
A native Arlington resident, Charles played running back for the Arlington High School Colts. After graduation, Charles played football for Arlington State College and earned a scholarship to the University of Texas. He married his high school sweetheart, Wanda, in 1954, and then served in the U.S. Army for two years.
Charles began a career at Stratoflex , Inc., with four years in Detroit in sales and 18 years in Fort Wayne, Ind., as district/regional manager. In 1979, he returned to Texas as vice president. Promoted to president of Stratoflex, now a division of Parker Hannifin, he continued until his retirement in 1996. After retirement, Charles consulted for Allied International and Kasper & Associates. Throughout his career, Charles traveled the world and, with Wanda by his side, they enjoyed incredible adventures.
Charles loved football, entertaining, his church and home team, and playing golf with The Dirty Dozen at Colonial Country Club, where he was a member.
He was an incredible man, who made everyone feel loved. He was the master of telling jokes, king of the barbecue and the love of his family's life. He will be greatly missed, but we all know that he is in heaven "doing it his way."
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ellison and Nannie Marshall; sisters, Mary Hurn and Ann Evans; and granddaughter, Kiri Marshall.
Survivors: Wife of 55 years, Wanda Marshall; children, Alan Marshall (Gloria), Laura Taylor (Doug) and Jennifer Jordan (Richard); grandchildren, Miranda Marshall, Charlie and Sydney Jordan, Corey and Colton Marshall and Jason Taylor; siblings, Neal Marshall and Mamie Lett; numerous family members; and a host of friends.

Dear, Dear Wanda, I am so sorry for you losing your Charlie and have admired your personal strength so much over the last several years. You cared for your Chares in a most dignified, respectful, and loving manner. Thank You for setting the example for all of us. Daddy (Neil) is going to miss his best friend, the phone calls, the visits, all they have endured and shared together since their days as Arlington Colts. We are going to miss him and know that my thoughts are with you and your children and sweet grandchildren during this most sacred time. I love you and though he is unable to be a part of this I hope you will always know that Daddy loves you, and especially loved his friend Charlie. My most sincere condolences and wishes for peace, now and always, Cynthia (Neil's daughter) and Bryan Harris

Charlie was always such a good hearted and good humor type of guy. When he attended the infamous Monday luncheon, he told the guys there he never wanted to be called "Chuck", just Charlie. Of course, they did not listen, and kiddingly always called him Chuck after that. But Charlie was the type of guy who just smiled and went along with them. They are all deeply saddened by his passing, as we all are, but we also know he is now resting in peace in Heaven. And he will be looking down on them next Monday, laughing, because they will be talking and missing "Chuck."
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the family during this time. Betty and George Parr
