Edward Kirk Whisman, 67, a retired U.S. Air Force lieutenant colonel, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013. Service: 7 p.m. Thursday at Thompson's Harveson & Cole, where the family will greet friends at 6 p.m. Memorials: Donations in Kirk's memory be made to any cancer support service of the giver's choice. Edward Kirk Whisman was born in Houston on Oct. 6, 1945, to Charles Edward and Ruth Crow Whisman. He earned a B.A. from LSU in 1967, an M.B.A. from Golden Gate University in 1982 and an M.P.A. from UTA in 1990. He began a military career in 1968 with the Air Force. He served as a navigator in Taiwan during the Vietnam War. He retired from Carswell Air Force Base in 1991. His second career was with American Airlines where he remained until his death. Survivors: Wife of 43 years, Katherine Whisman; daughter, Maureen Whisman McDonald; sister, Kaye Young.
