Evaristo "Buddy" Contreras Obituary
Evaristo "Buddy" Contreras, 81, husband of the late Hermelinda Contreras, passed away peacefully Friday, May 10, 2013. Funeral: 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 18, in Greenwood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Rosary: 6 p.m. Friday, May 17, at Greenwood Funeral Home. Evaristo "Buddy" Contreras was born in Floresville and retired in White Settlement. He enlisted into the United States Air Force in November 1950. After serving in the Vietnam and Korean wars, and several tours in Japan and England, Buddy retired as a master sergeant June 30, 1977. He then joined the United Postal Service in Azle and retired after 13 years. Buddy's love was baseball. In his early days he played semi-pro baseball and at the end of his military career he continued to stay in the game umpiring baseball, softball and basketball for over 30 years. Survivors: Daughters, Jennifer Crouch, Monica Chandler, Michelle Scott and Melinda Humphreys, all of Fort Worth; son, Michael Contreras of Tolland, Conn.; sisters, Adela Martinez and Esther Gonzales; brother, Johnny Contreras; grandchildren, Kirsty Chandler, Shelby Chandler, Logan Contreras, Meagan Crouch, Hunter Humphreys, Jacob Humphreys, Lauren Scott, Lily Contreras and Isabella Scott; and great-granddaughter, Kylie Chandler.
