Frank George "Petie" Bordner, 90, of Bridgeport, a longtime Bridgeport historian, passed away Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013, in Grapevine. Service: 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Catholic Church in Bridgeport, officiated by Father Thomas Dsouza. Burial: will follow in East Bridgeport Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bridgeport Heritage Museum, 812-B Halsell St., Bridgeport, Texas, 76426, or to St. John's Catholic Church, 1801 Irvin St., Bridgeport, Texas 76426. Petie was born Jan. 18, 1923, in Bridgeport to Pete Bordner and Helen Galik Bordner. Upon graduation from Bridgeport High School, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II before returning to Bridgeport and marrying Alva Jewell Holt. He worked as an oilfield pumper with Mitchell Energy until his retirement. Petie was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Bridgeport, and he enjoyed woodworking and traveling. Petie may be best remembered as the local expert when it came to the history of the coal mines in Bridgeport. He was often a presenter during the Coal Miners Day program held annually in Bridgeport. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Alva Jewell Bordner, and his parents. Survivors: Daughter, Melinda Manoushagian and husband, Ralph, of Bedford; grandchildren, Beth Wykrent and husband, Damon, of Highland Village and Andy Manoushagian of Los Angeles, Calif.; and great-grandchildren, Luke Wykrent and Molly Wykrent, both of Highland Village.
