Gordon R. James Obituary
Gordon Roger James, 91, died Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at his home in North Richland Hills. Funeral: 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in Mount Olivet Chapel. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Mount Olivet Funeral Home. Memorials: , 5429 Lyndon B. Johnson Fwy., Dallas, Texas 75240-2617 or www.kidney.org. He was born June 30, 1922, to James Arthur and Lina Bennett James in Wise County. Gordon's time in school in Decatur was cut short when he was called to serve in the U.S. Army Air Corps with the 68th Air Service Group, 1803rd Ordnance Company, in China. He obtained the rank of Tec 5 (tech corporal) and was honorably discharged in January 1946. He married Lura Marie Jones on Jan. 23, 1946, and lived in North Richland Hills for over 45 years where they raised two sons. After 28 years of service, Gordon retired from General Motors, Inc. He was a member of UAW 276. He enjoyed fishing, repairing boats and lawn mowers and had a fondness for a good homegrown tomato and a tasty pecan pie! As Grand Dad, he never got tired of watching the many baseball, basketball, soccer and football games or the dance and drill practices that his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were involved in over the years. And he loved to listen to Gospel music! Gordon was preceded in death by his parents; and all of his siblings--brothers, Alvie James, Jack James, Charles James and Herschel James (baby) and sisters, Nettie Bunnell, Katherine Nell Rose, Betty Waddle and Ruth Weehunt. Survivors: His loving wife of 67 years, Marie; sons, Billy "Bl" James (Rhonda) of Richland Hills and Roger (Linda) of Winnsboro; grandchildren, Brian James (Jamie) of North Richland Hills, Brendin James of Austin and Kelsey James of Richland Hills; great-grandchildren, Will, Hunter and Brianna James of North Richland Hills.
