James Steven Slater, age 69, of Fort Worth passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 29, 2012, in Fort Worth. Service: 10 a.m. Wednesday in Laurel Land Chapel of Chimes. Steve was born Nov. 28, 1942, in Hudson, Mich. He married Mary Ann in Wichita Falls, on Feb. 6, 1977. He attended the University of Texas at El Paso and graduated in 1970 with a degree in civil engineering. He was a longtime resident of Fort Worth and was employed by the city of Fort Worth before forming his own company, Slater Engineering, where he served as president. Steve was a member of Arborlawn United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ellen Callahan. Survivors: Steve will be remembered by his loving wife, Mary Ann; his sister, Kay Magnant and her husband, Ken, their sons, Lance and Mark, of Huntsville, Ala.
