Jim Dempsey Ferguson Sr. Obituary
Jim Dempsey Ferguson Sr. of Fort Worth passed away Sunday, July 6, 2014. He was 92 years of age. Graveside service: Will be conducted Wednesday in Zion Rest Cemetery in Pleasant Hill, La., by David Vestal of Weatherford and Buddy Holland of Waxahachie, under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home of Mansfield, La. Jim D. Ferguson was born May 24, 1922, to the late Sam Ferguson and Julia Leonard Ferguson in Hartsburg. Jim was a highly decorated Purple Heart veteran of World War II where he served with the 101st Airborne. Jim went into Normandy in a glider, was in Bastogne when it was surrounded and was with the group that took the Eagle's Nest. After the war, Jim took a job with Sunoco and retired in 1980 after 33 years in communications. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Sammie; and sisters, Bonnie, Barbara and Beulah. Survivors: His wife, Helen; children, Jim D. Ferguson Jr. and wife, Judi, of Ennis, Vernon Johnson and husband, Robert, of Houston, JoAnne Copeland of Shreveport, La., Ted Richard Cook and wife, Cindy, of Florida, Judy Vestal and husband, David, of Weatherford and Buddy Holland and wife, Janet, of Waxahachie: grandchildren, Paul Ferguson, Tara Ferguson, Rebecca Johnson- Edgerly, Kimberley Forcin, Marcia Sallee, Casey Cook, Chris Cook, Jeff Holland, Shane Holland, Alicia Vestal Purdy and Eddie Vestal; cousin, Estelle Young; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
