John M. Elliott Obituary
John M. Elliott, 73, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully Friday, Jan. 6, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. Funeral: 12:30 p.m. Thursday in Greenwood-Arlington Chapel. Interment: 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials: Please send memorial contributions to Community Hospice of Texas or the - North Central Texas Chapter. John was born Feb. 18, 1943, in Wichita, Kan. He was the son of Earl and Agnes Elliott. In 1957 John and his parents moved to Arlington, where he attended and graduated from Arlington High School in 1961. Following high school, John received a track and field scholarship to attend Arlington State College (now UTA) where he graduated with Bachelor's of History in 1972. He also served four years in the United States Navy as an air traffic controller in California and NAS Dallas. After leaving the Navy, he received his Master's in Public School Administration from North Texas State University in 1976. John began his teaching career in 1974 in Arlington, where he taught U.S. history and government at Sam Houston High School until retirement. He married the love of his life, Jane Virginia Veres, in 1979. They were blessed with three beloved children: Kathryn, Andrew, and Elizabeth. Following retirement, John enjoyed spending time and traveling with his family. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. John was preceded in death by his father, Lucian Earl Elliott; and mother, Agnes Rosella Ellott. Survivors: Wife, Jane Elliott; children, Kathryn Thomas and husband, Rick, Andrew Elliott and wife, Jana, and Elizabeth Elliott; grandson, Weston Thomas; and many cherished cousins and close friends.
