Lawrence Gerald Phoenix

Lawrence Gerald Phoenix, 64, of Oklahoma City, Okla., died Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at a hospital in Oklahoma City. He left this life after a short but intense fight with lung cancer. Burial: Lawrence's cremains will be interred in Fort Gibson National Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are by OK Cremation, Mortuary Service and Funeral Home of Oklahoma City. Lawrence was born Dec. 19, 1946, in Tulsa, Okla., to the late Carl Roy and Faye Joyce Moton Phoenix. He graduated from Daniel Webster High School in Tulsa and married Lena Kay Smith in 1967. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1968, and graduated from Northeastern Oklahoma State College in 1971. After 10 years with the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Lawrence made a career in mortgage banking in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. In drafting his own obituary, Mr. Phoenix closed by saying: "He loved his family, his country and God beyond measure." His wife, Kay, preceded him in death. Survivors: Sons, Larry and Marcus of Oklahoma City and Charles of Irvine, Calif.; and granddaughters, Kayla Phoenix and Mila Phoenix.
