1937 - 2010 | Obituary Condolences
Leopoldo "Polo" Gonzalez Jr., 73, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010, surrounded by loved ones. Funeral: 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Cathedral. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Rosary: 5 p.m. Sunday in Mount Olivet Funeral Home Chapel. Leopoldo was born in Laredo on Jan. 4, 1937, to Leopoldo Paz Gonzalez and Maria Rodriguez Gonzalez. He graduated from Martin High School in Laredo. He moved to Fort Worth in 1955 for a promotion with S&H Green Stamps, where he remained for 35 years. This is where he met the love of his life, Estella Jimenez. They were married April 14, 1956, at St. Patrick Cathedral. For several years, Leopoldo was an avid golfer, bowler, baseball player and bingo caller. He was a member of the All Saints Catholic Men's Club, San Jose Mutualista and Fort Worth Amistad Bowling Club. Special thanks to the staff, especially Dr. Robert Treadwell, at Harris Methodist downtown, CardioVascular Home Care, Tarrant Dialysis Peritoneal Clinic, Dr. Kwan K. Oei, Sue Tripp, P.A., Dr. Nasim Akhtar and Dr. Lee Anderson. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Leopoldo "Leo" Gonzalez III; daughter, Maria Virginia "Mandy" Gonzalez; and sister, Maria del Concepcion Lara. Survivors: He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 54 years, Estella Gonzalez; children, Yolanda Gonzalez, Gracie Hewitt (Bill), Nora Gonzalez and Linda Gonzalez (Abel); grandchildren, Estella G. Gonzalez and Rafael Leopoldo Gonzalez (Rale); brothers, Felipe Gonzalez (Oralia), Gilberto Gonzalez, Jose Gonzalez (Lorrie); sisters, Maria del Refugio Uvalle, Gloria Gonzalez (Emilio); and numerous nieces, nephews, loved ones and close friends.
