Lilliah Pitchford Obituary
Funeral: 11 a.m. Friday at Richland Hills Church of Christ, Mr. Rick Atchely and Mr. Mike Washburn officiating. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Greenwood Funeral Home.
Lil was born Dec. 27, 1930, in Jack County. Her love of sports began at an early age, playing school sports with her two sisters. Later, she met the love of her life, Arnold Pitchford, while attending North Texas State University. They were happily married for almost 60 years and raised four loving children.
Lil never met a stranger and was always proud to say she was a teacher at L.D. Bell High School. Lil's active involvement in volleyball, softball, aerobics and especially tennis helped her fight a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
Faith, family and friends were huge parts of who Lil was. She made everyone who met her feel special and loved, especially her grandchildren who affectionately called her "Bil Lil."
The family would like to thank Dr. Ruxer and the staff of Texas Oncology, her church family, as well as the host of friends from all walks in her life.
A special thanks to her four-legged friend "Acie" who kept a constant vigil over Lil, especially during her final days.
Lil was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Chaney, and great-granddaughter, Lilly Pitchford.
Survivors: Husband of 60 years, Arnold Pitchford; children, Harold Pitchford and wife, Donna, Frances Peck and husband, Steve, Carol Lee Eberly and husband, Jerry, and Karen Johnson and husband, Wayne; grandchildren, Shea Pitchford and wife, Jennifer, Jill Johnson and husband, Cory, Tanner Pitchford, Christopher Peck, Jarrod Eberly, Molly Eberly, Callie Johnson, Zachary Johnson and Addy Johnson; great-grandchild, Zoe Pitchford; sister, Minnie Lou Geer; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

I just today saw that Lil passed away in January.I hadnt known she was battling anything.I went to Richland Hills High School with her son Harold and daughter Carol and we were all band weenies.I spent a lot of time hanging around the Pitchfords during those years and also knew Harold when he married Donna right up until Shea was born and then kinda let life get in the way. My sympathy goes out to everyone in the family and i know Lil will be in a great place watching over her family.

Carol, wanted you to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Stan and I remember going to Lake Quachita and being with all your family. Your mom was special I know that because of the daughter she reared. Let your memories help you through this difficult time.

I grew up in the Fox-Lambert community west of Weatherford, Texas and attended school at Millsap and church services at the old Beulah Baptist Church with younger members of the Pitchford family. However, Arnold was a few years older than me and I never knew him until his wife, Lil, decided that she wanted to take violin (fiddle) lessons from me. Here I must compliment Arnold on his choice of a wife. Lil had the best attitude of anyone that I have ever known, always smiling, happy and ready to have fun. And she was a pretty good little fiddler, too. I looked forward to each and every time that she would come for a lesson. We had such great fun playing the old fiddle tunes together, mostly the old Bob Wills songs. When she told me of her sickness I knew that I would miss her visits and the good times that we shared. But she was optimistic and upbeat as usual and assured me that if and when she was cured that she would resume lessons. Afterwards, I would see her and Arnold at the Spring Creek and Brock musicals. She always had a smile and a hug for me and some cheerful words. She would speak frankly and fearlessly about her progress but I never heard her complain even once. I suppose she was just too busy cheering other people up to think so much about her own problems. Each time I met her she left a little bright spot in my life.
Goodbye, Lil, and rest peacefully in the arms of the Lord.

To say the Pitchford's have been a big part of our lives doesn't adequately describe how special Lil and the rest of you have been to us. The night's at our house on Mackey Drive (playing slap Perry's hands) or yours on Cummings, vacations all through the South (throwing stones) but especially at Lake Ouachita, Shelly and I coming to see you in Alabama (so she could pass inspection), it goes on and on. We have so many great memories of Lil and your family. We know what you are going through now and will be there with you, just as you were there for us. We love you.

Pitchford Family,
Memories of the last fifty years that we have spent together in the Smoky Mountains, Lake Ouachita, fall trip to the East Coast to view the turning of the leaves, and Friday nights playing games are all coming back. Lil was truly the sister that I never had. We love all of you and share your grief.

Although most of my kids are grown, they still ask if we are heading out to your farm to hunt Easter eggs. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and we are glad you are in a better place!!! What an honor to be Aunt Lil's niece! I will miss that wonderful smile, humor and always ready to give me a hug every time I saw her at church. Words can not begin to let Arnold and my wonderful cousins know how much my heart is with them and how special they are to me. Though we have the faith to know her earth battle is over and she triumphs death to live in Glory with her maker, our hearts ache today with sadness and wonderful memories of an amazing lady that will be sorely missed by all of us!!!

Lil, we'll never forget the fun times we had at Lake Quachita together, especially the waking up to the smell of frying bacon and sausage as you prepared breakfast for the "gang" every morning. And, of course, we'll always remember the Easter Sundays we spent at Twin Pines hiding hundreds of eggs all around your beautiful ranch, even under cow patties. You were always such a joy to be around. I can hear you laughing now. Your marriage, relationship with your children and grandchildren and your "never give up" attitude during your battle with cancer was an inspiration for all of us. We love you and will miss you.
