Martha Elizabeth "Marti" Bennett Obituary
Martha "Marti" Elizabeth Bennett, 87, passed away peacefully at home in Fort Worth on Friday, Dec. 27, 2013. Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Greenwood Chapel. Entombment: Greenwood Mausoleum. Visitation: 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Greenwood Funeral Home. Memorials: Humane Society of North Texas, 1840 E. Lancaster Ave., Fort Worth, Texas 76103. She was born Sept. 18, 1926, in Asheville, N.C., to James William and Noreen Alexander Bennett. She attended public schools in Asheville, N.C., and Maryville, Tenn. Marti was a devoted advocate for animal rights. She endorsed many national and international programs for the health and well-being of animals. She enjoyed a successful 35-year career with Construction Design Associates in Fort Worth. Close family friend O.L. Pitts began the company in the late 1950s and Marti joined the company soon after it was founded as the head of finance. The company built nursing homes and retirement centers and expanded nationwide. She worked there until she retired. She was a longtime member of Arlington Heights United Methodist Church of Fort Worth. She was preceded in death by her brother, Dr. James Bennett Jr., and nephew. Keith Bennett. Survivors: Daughter, Elizabeth Bennett Holmes and husband, Jim; sister, Dottie Bennett Gray; brother, retired U.S. Air Force Col. Bob Bennett and wife, Freda; grandsons, Alex Yoder and wife, Stephanie, and John Harrington; great-grandchildren, Ava and Jackson Yoder; nephews, Ben Gray and wife, Kitra, Jim Bennett and wife, Pat, and Bobby Bennett and wife, Jane; niece, Lee Bennett Sherry and husband, Bill; and special family friend, Don Payne and wife, Sherry.
