Scott Walker Obituary

Scott Walker, 60, was escorted into the garden of his beloved Jesus on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at home. Before changing his address to heaven, he left behind a legacy of servant leadership both in his family and the community of Tarrant County. A man of precision, wisdom and noble character, he led an exemplary life through his steadfast faith in Christ. Scott brought joy and strength into every part of his life. He was a rock. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Saturday at Christ Chapel. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to the Scott Walker Memorial Fund, c/o Sheryl Laboyteaux, 4200 S. Hulen St., # 614, Fort Worth, Texas 76109-4988, benefiting the spread of the gospel around the world through various mission organizations. Scott was born April 28, 1951, in Abilene to the late Mary Frances Templeton and John Winters Walker Sr. After graduating from Midland High School, where he was a football player, scholar and Eagle Scout, he attended Texas Christian University. Strength of both body and mind produced a four-year football letterman at TCU and the recipient of the NCAA Academic All-American and Sportsmanship awards while under the instruction of four different coaches. In 1973, Scott graduated TCU magna cum laude with a 4.0, married Janina Lankford on Dec. 28, and earned his master's in accountancy from the University of Texas in the spring of 1974. Scott and Janina returned to Fort Worth where he began his accounting career with Ernst & Ernst, but in 1978 he met Cass Edwards, a man who would help direct the course of his life, imparting a wealth of humble wisdom and integrity through the generational blessing of the Cass and Crawford Edwards family. Cass was a father to Scott in many ways, and together they, along with Wes Stripling and John Glen, developed Southwest Fort Worth through Cassco Land Company. Known in the city as an honest businessman who deeply cared for the practical matters of the city, Scott also served his Lord Jesus by attending to the spiritual needs of the community through Tarrant Net, an organization that networks churches and ministries across racial, denominational and socio-economic lines to make an impact in the city. Through deep friendships with local pastors, he led prayer endeavors and outreaches to the poor and needy. A tender warrior with a large heart, Scott loved to worship and attended Renewal In Christ Ministry retreats as a prayer leader and mentor to countless brothers and sisters in Christ. He served in many leadership capacities, including the greater Fort Worth Real Estate Council and Trinity River Council and on board memberships, including H.O.P.E. Farm, Tarrant Net, All Saints' Episcopal School, and SOMA missions. He led two men's discipleship groups, "the SWAT Team" and "the Thursday Boys." Scott had a deep passion for gardening at home. Through his creativity he was able to cultivate a backyard "oasis of beauty" that brought peace and healing to all who entered it. Together, he and his beloved wife Janina extended hospitality to others and made each person feel at home in His presence, always being mindful that, "surely the presence of the Lord is in this place." A refuge of peace, quiet and rest for Scott, his last hours were spent tending to his garden before he went from labor to reward with his Heavenly Father. His business acumen and expertise in almost any subject were extraordinary, but these were far surpassed by his love for and devotion to all the people in his life. He brought to every encounter and situation a rare joy, wisdom and his deep faith in Jesus Christ. He brought beauty, laughter, encouragement and support into the lives of all who knew him. He was generous, insightful and kind - and lots of fun. Survivors: His wife of 38 years, Janina; children, Wynne Walker and wife, Jenni, Nina Holland and husband, J.R.; grandchildren, Eliot Grace Walker, Cora Campbell Walker and soon-to-be-born Arthur Scott Holland; brother, John Walker Jr. and wife, Karen; sister, Freda Walker and husband, Bob Wagner; spiritual children, Timm and Katherine Sasser and their children, Annie Janina, Jake, Norah and Lillian; mother-in-law, Gloria "Mimi" Lankford; and many extended family members and friends.

Janina, I did not know that the Lord had taken Scott home until Diane Buford told me. I know you miss him every day. My prayers go up for you in the days ahead......You were such a beautiful couple. But the memories you have of Scott are so wonderful! And I truly don't think it will be very long until we all are united in heaven! Love you, my precious sister in Christ!

Here are my original thoughts...
These are my current thoughts: seeing your beautiful children and wonderful wife this week was a good time. I also noticed how strong you are and how your girls look up to you. Your dad is proud of you... I'm sure of that, and he will help out from the other side whenever you need him. Take care.

Scott Walker allowed me to live in his home during a time when nobody else would, and rightfully so. He was loving, wise and not afraid to stand up for what is right. Unfortunately, I was not in a place to receive all that Scott tried to give me, but I will never forget the mercy, compassion and love shown to me by Scott and Janina Walker. Go rest high, Scott. And though we never spoke after my last struggle, I hope you know I have peace. I love you and Janina very much

Dear Janina, and all the family...Cindy and I just found out today about Scott, and our love, hearts, and prayers go out to you all. During the years I had the privilege of being a part of the Thursday boys, Scott made me feel more than just at home; he made me feel like I was part of the family. I always looked forward to our Bible study because of the time he and I were able to spend together just before the rest of the boys arrived - what a joy and inspiration! And Stan is right, Scott was a wonderful leader, full of grace, knowledge, and wisdom. Cindy & I will cherish all the memories, especially of the times you shared with us in your home, and pray that every memory will become treasures we can relive every time we think of Scott. Scott glorified our Father, and we should do the same. Praise God for allowing Scott to be a part of our lives. We will miss him, but we will not forget him. Praise God!!! Paul & Cindy

Janina, family and friends - I only met Scott 2 years ago through Tarrant Net, yet his warmth, his strength and encouragement impacted me in a deep way. The time we spent together was always refreshing. My prayer is that your eyes will be clear to see Scott wrapped in the arms of Jesus at the Father's right hand. While we mourn, Scott is celebrating the reality of eternal life in the Presence of God! Louise and I join the hundreds of others who are standing with you in prayer during this challenging time! Dear Janina and family: I was so saddened today, to read of Scott's passing. I worked for Scott when Wynn was born. One of the highlights of my working years was having the opportunity to work with Scott and the Edwards Trust. Scott was wonderful to work for, he was very kind to me and helped me far and beyond the call of duty. He gave me his old Mercury when he got a new one because my old car was worn out and it was like a new car to me. He was such a pleasure to work with,I feel very fortunate to have known him, and I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.
Sincerely, Jean Allen

As a fellow "S.W.A.T.er, Scott has left a larger than(this life) spiritual imprint on so many people that his Lord and Savior placed in his life, to include me.In thinking about Scott,I consider him as a consumate spiritual"Walker" and talker who desired to be a vessel of His Triune God's love, mercy. and grace. I know that Scott was welcomed into His presence with what all Believers in Jesus desire to hear," Well done my good and faithful servant, enter into My presence ". My deep grief is only superceded by the peace at knowing the fullness of joy Scott now has in the nearer presence of Jesus, His Lord. There will be a deep hole in the community and in the Body of Christ. Scott's joy and faith impacted me deeply in my association with him through RICM and in my personal interactions with him. Please accept my sincere condolences to Scott's family and friends. My connection to Scott was with the Thursday boys. Scott was our fearless leader and excellent facilitator. He had a wealth of knowledge in almost every area we studied and could always connect it with Biblical principles and our walk with the Lord. I will miss his humor, organizational skills that kept me on track and his terrific example of Jesus love, patience, kindness, goodness and strength. He has already left a void in my heart. I know Jesus our Lord has told Scott well done good and faithful servant. I look forward to seeing my friend again.

To the Family of Scott Walker:
I want to express my condolences to Scott's Family and Friends. I am from the extended family that started with his father and the 1252nd Combat Engineers that my father was a member of 1944-1945. Scott hosted one of the 1252nd reunions in Ft Worth that Betty, my wife, and I were a part of. The hospitality and friendship his family and particularly his mother, Mary Frances Walker, had shown me and my father and mother through the years, will always be cherished.
My prayers are with all of you at this time of great loss.

Regards,
Jerry & Betty Dorcz
