Shirley E. Wilbanks Bottoms Obituary
Shirley E. Wilbanks Bottoms, 96, passed away peacefully Monday, July 28, 2014. Memorials: Scottish Rite Crippled Children's Hospital in Dallas, in lieu of flowers. Shirley was born at home close to the North Fork of the White River in Marion County, Ark., on Oct. 29, 1917, to James Richard and Ollie Jane Wilbanks. She graduated from Norman High School in Norman, Okla., in 1937. She and her late husband, Vernon B. Bottoms, attended the University of Oklahoma, where he graduated with a degree in petroleum engineering and geology. Upon his graduation, they moved to Midland. Shirley served as president of the Parent Teacher Organization, and was a Girl Scout troop leader while living in Midland. In 1953, they moved to Fort Worth, where Shirley was a life member of the Methodist Women and the Petroleum Landmen's Wives and worked for Neiman-Marcus in Fort Worth, winning a Golden Stallion Award for outstanding contribution to the company. Shirley loved her home and fashion, and accompanied her husband on many petroleum conventions all over the western portion of the United States. Survivors: Daughter, Brenda B. Bottoms of Fort Worth and Denver, Colo.; sister, Melva C. Lee of San Diego, Calif.; six nieces; and three nephews.
