Tommy Poindexter Obituary

Tommy Lynn Poindexter, 53, of Azle joined his heavenly Father on Friday, Aug. 10, 2012. Memorial service: Will be held in his honor at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at Azle Church of Christ, 336 Northwest Parkway in Azle. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to an account at Pinnacle Bank in Azle or through PayPal at www.hvacconsultants.net. Tommy was born July 15, 1959, in Fort Worth, to Virgil Gene and Joy Hatler Poindexter. He attended school in Azle, where he played football and made lifelong friends, and graduated with the Class of 1977. He married Carol Boucher in the chapel of a nursing home on Nov. 7, 1981, in Fort Worth. Known as the big guy with the big heart, Tommy developed a serious heart condition and eventually received the gift of a new heart May 2, 2012. He was preceded in death by his father, Virgil Poindexter; grandmother, Florine "Bobo" Dodd Allison; stepfather, Ron Walcott; father-in-law, Clay Clements; and special friends, Franklin "Tank" Shearman and Carl Pappas. Survivors: Wife, Carol; children, Brian Conner and wife, Cheryl, of Saginaw and Christina Lynn Poindexter and Stacy Renee Poindexter, both of Azle; granddaughters, Elaina Noel Conner and Katherine Faith Conner; mother and dad, Joy and Tom Sheppard; brothers, Johnny Poindexter and wife, Lea Ann, Danny Poindexter, Ronnie Walcott and Randy Walcott; chosen brothers, Andy Barnett, Chip Aston and Rick York; six nieces; six nephews; and a multitude of friends whom he loved dearly.
