Virgene Bice Obituary

Virgene Bice, 87, wonderful loving wife, devoted and beloved mother, treasured sister, grandmother and great-grandmother stepped into the eternal presence of her Lord on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011. Funeral: 11:30 a.m. Friday in Greenwood Chapel. Interment: Laurel Land Memorial Park. Visitation: The family will welcome visitors 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Greenwood Funeral Home. Memorials: Virgene dedicated herself and her children to the Lord's service. Her love and sacrifice impacted hundreds of lives. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to New Life Fellowship Deaf Church, Fort Worth, Texas, to support deaf mission efforts. Virgene was born Oct. 7, 1923, in Athens, Ohio, and graduated from the Ohio School for the Deaf in Columbus. During World War II, she was one of hundreds of deaf people who obtained civil service jobs in Akron, Ohio. In a thriving deaf community, she met her husband, J.E. After relocating to Texas, they started a family, and she focused on raising her children. In 1963, J.E. and Virgene gave their lives to the Lord Jesus and became involved in Southern Baptist work, teaching Bible study groups, and deaf youth camps and missions. In 1988, after 14 years of service, Virgene retired from the Texas School for the Deaf, where she served as a cottage parent with a lasting influence on many deaf youth. Virgene's life was governed by the desires of her Lord and the needs of those around her. Exceptionally beautiful inside and out, she laughed easily and deeply loved her children. Her gentleness prevailed against the hardest of times. Loyal to her husband of 63 years, she relished their travel adventures throughout the U.S. The family expresses deep gratitude to Lydia, Saundra, Community Hospice of Texas, Pastor Aric and Allison, and the New Life family for all their care. Virgene was preceded in death by her parents; deaf brother, Alvin; and one daughter, LuRee. Survivors: Husband, J.E. Bice; sister, Lee DeLay (Tom); sister-in-law, Minnie Hawk; son, Danny Bice (Joni); daughter, Vesta Sauter (Mark); grandchildren, Zach (Lori), Jacob (Morgan), Kristen (Kevin); and nine great-grandchildren.

You all are in my thoughts and prayers as you go through this difficult time. May the Lord give you strength and comfort. Virgene was very special to me. I was so thrilled to see her last November when I came to Texas for visit. I praise God that I had the opportunity to see her before she left for Heaven.
Here's a song that came to my heart.
"When we all get to Heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be. When we all see Jesus, we ll sing and shout the victory!"

I am so sorry to hear that she is gone; however I am glad that she went with the Lord now. She is in peace now. I recall she babysat me while my foster parents, Carl and Nancy Earwood, were out. Of course her hubby did babysit me, too. Virginie did watch me at TSD, too. She had a wonderful heart. I know someday I will meet her again when I go home with the Lord! For now, The Bice family is in my prayer as well!

Way back, years ago at Texas School for the Deaf, Virgene proved herself a good trustfully and caring Cottage Houseparent to my parents who let me attended TSD in "wild decade" of 1980's. She is well-remembered by few hearing parents now and we all thankful that she is rested peaceful! May God bless her family including J.E. and Vesta.
