Wayne Davis Hagood Obituary
Wayne D. Hagood, real estate counselor and appraiser, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013. He had resided at Lake Granbury since March 1985. Funeral: 2 p.m. Friday at Acton United Methodist Church. Interment: Acton Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Wiley Funeral Home. Memorials: Memorials may be made to Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, Dallas, Texas, Acton United Methodist Church or Habitat for Humanity of Hood County. Wayne D. Hagood was born in Fort Worth on Dec. 3, 1924. In World War II he was in the Navy Air Force as a gunner on an Avenger torpedo bomber, was carrier based in the Pacific, saw action at Palau, Leyte, Luzon and Iwo Jima, and was awarded the Air Medal and other citations. He married Betty Jean Collins on Dec. 3, 1946, and she was the true light and love of his life throughout the years. Her beauty and charm, her smile and sparkling blue eyes inspired him in all his endeavors. An internationally known counselor, appraiser and lecturer, he was active professionally in the field from February 1950, until his retirement as chairman emeritus of Hagood Realty Advisors, Inc., a professional firm that he established in 1953. After retirement he served on the Appraisal Review Board of Hood County. He was a member of Panther City Lodge, and was affiliated with Fort Worth Chapter, RAM and Fort Worth Council, R&SM, Worth Commandry, Moslah Shrine, the Scottish Rite and Order of DeMolay. As a member of Acton United Methodist Church, he served as finance chairman, treasurer, trustee, administrative council, chairman of the Cross and Flame Endowment Fund, and was the primary author of the church's strategic plan. In later years he became involved with Habitat for Humanity of Hood County. His stated mission in life was to live respected and die regretted. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Gladys and Clyde Hagood; and brother, Dr. C.O. Hagood Jr. Survivors: In addition to his wife, Jean, he is survived by a son, David Hagood and wife, Jeanie, of Fort Worth; daughter, Diane Burton and husband, Larry, of Spur; grandchildren, Lindsey Hagood, Matt Burton, Paul Burton, Alicia Burton Cloud, Lisa Jones and Lori Dunn; great-grandchildren, Jeramy, Keegan and Dillon Jack Cloud, Lauren and Lainey Dunn, Tiffany and Matthew Jones; and sister-in-law, Pamela Hagood.
