William Rainey Williams Obituary
William R. "Bill" Williams passed away peacefully in his sleep Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, at the age of 94. Memorial service: Will be held in his longtime residence of Seattle, Wash. Bill was born July 18, 1919, in Baden, N.C. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army on Dec. 24, 1942. He served as an artillery officer. He was wounded in World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart during a campaign in France and two Bronze Stars. On Dec. 8, 1945, he married his wife of 55 years, Mary Catherine Evans. They lived in Seattle, Wash., with their two children, Thomas Reed Williams and Margaret Ellen Jessen. He enjoyed a career with the U.S. Postal Service and retired as superintendent of the downtown post sffice in Seattle. After he retired, Bill and Mary turned their home on Mercer Island, Wash., into a bed and breakfast. During the last year he had enjoyed the friendship of many fine people at his residence, The Vantage at Cityview. He was dearly loved and will be sorely missed. Survivors: Son, Thomas R. and his wife, Jo Ann Williams, of Fort Worth; daughter, Peggy and her husband, Theodore Jessen, of Woodenville, Wash.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
