William Martin Wood passed away Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, in Decatur. Funeral: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, at Southmont Baptist Church. Interment: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, in Rose Hill Cemetery in Wapanucka, Okla. He was born Jan. 21, 1926, to Jeff and Pearl Wood in Wapanucka, Okla. William served in the Army Air Corps as an airman in World War II. He married Joy Lambert on July 3, 1944. Together they had a son, Seth Wood. He worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone company as a manager and retired in 1983. He was a member of Southmont Baptist Church and was an avid quail hunter and fisherman. William was preceded in death by five sisters and one brother. Survivors: His wife of 68 years, Joy Wood; his son, Seth Wood; and a sister, Jorene Reeves.
