Arlene Workman Obituary
Arlene Workman, 77, left this world on the wings of angels Saturday, March 29, 2014. Surrounded by friends, she let go the hand of her soulmate, only for the arms of her Father. Memorial service: Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury. Born in Dallas on March 20, 1937, Arlene was a belated blessing in the lives of her parents, Brice M and Erma Campbell, and two brothers, Brice and Jack. The family moved to Arlington, where Arlene was a member of the Arlington High School class of 1955. On June 24 of that same year, she married Durwood Lee Workman and it was a union that would span almost 60 years. In 1967 they were blessed by the birth of an only child, Todd Lee, and he remains the center of their lives. Arlene's work as a legal assistant and in property management was second only to her role as wife and mother, and to the care that she showed to her family and friends. She followed the love of her life, supporting his career opportunities and making each house along the way a beautiful home. Life in Kansas, Michigan and Georgia paved the way for retirement in Granbury in 2001. A lady with a passion for fashion, shopping and shoes, she loved music and travel and ice cream, too! She loved Elvis and cooking and babies and cards, but she didn't love anything like she loved all of us! Some remember the years that she cared for her daddy, and others will never forget the way she tended "his" mother. She was really and truly like no other! In March 2008 Arlene suffered a stroke that would take her body but not her mind. Six years and eight days were a struggle and yet she did not complain. Her long and fruitful life provided a grand model for dedication and resilience, a legacy for all who had the privilege to share in her days. Survivors: Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Durwood; son, Todd Workman and wife, Jennifer; grandson, Elliot Workman, and his brother or sister expected late this year; sisters-in-law, Donna Coble and Ruth Campbell; nieces, Shelley Coble Simpson and Sharon Campbell; and nephew, Mike Coble.
