Jean Clair Bourland, 85, died Tuesday, April 1, 2014. Service: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Thompson's Harveson & Cole Funeral Home with a rosary at 2 p.m. Memorials: Gifts in her memory may be made to the , 2630 West Freeway, Fort Worth, Texas 76102. Jean was born Feb. 5, 1929, in Fort Worth. At the age of 12, Jean formed the youth choir at St. George Church and began playing the pump organ. Eventually, the adult choir joined the youth choir and Jean continued to direct them. She played the pump organ for weddings, funerals, Novenas and Sunday Masses until a new Hammond organ was purchased. Jean was active in St. George Catholic Church and School. She served as president of the Altar Society, worked part time in the church office and later became the parish secretary. Her children attended St. George Catholic School where she taught music, was president of the Home and School Association and served on the first school board created in 1969. After 40 years of service at St. George, she moved to St. John Catholic Church where she played the organ and directed the adult and hand bell choirs until her retirement. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Louis E. Bourland Jr.; parents, Albert and Mary Pearson; sister, Mary "Nell" Richardson; and brothers, J.R. "Bub" Pearson, Johnnie Pearson and William "Bill" Pearson. Survivors: Her son, Bob Bourland; daughters, Barbara Bourland, Beverly Riddell and her husband, Jim, and Diane Brinck and her husband, Steve; grandsons, Loren Whitten and his wife, Jennifer, and Eric Whitten and his partner, Michael Becker; granddaughter, Jordan Brinck; great-grandsons, Austin and Zane Moore; and nieces and nephews.
