Norma Thurston Ellis Obituary
Norma Thurston Ellis, 86, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, greeted her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, April 21, 2014. Memorial service: 3:30 p.m. Friday at Greenwood Chapel. Interment: Private. Memorials: If friends should desire, memorials may be made to Bread Basket Ministries, 2809 Mansfield Highway, Fort Worth, Texas 76119; or Covenant Care Hospice, 3221 Collinsworth St., Fort Worth, Texas 76107. Norma was born Oct. 10, 1927, in Farwell to Hazel Estelle Lovelace and Herschel Luther Thurston. As the youngest daughter of a Methodist minister, she lived throughout the Texas Panhandle growing up. She graduated from Perryton High School in 1944 where she met the love of her life, Danny Ellis. Four years later, she earned her bachelor's degree in education from Texas Wesleyan College. On Feb. 13, 1949, they were married in Brownfield. Norma and Dan with their three daughters made Fort Worth their permanent home in 1958 when Dan began his pediatric dentistry practice. She was a mighty prayer warrior whose greatest joy was praying for her family, friends and country. Norma taught numerous Bible studies at her church as well as in her home. God used her to make a lasting impression in the hearts and lives of those who she prayed for and mentored. Norma and Dan shared 50 wonderful years together. Jesus Christ was the center of their home, marriage and family. They were faithful members of McKinney Memorial Bible Church for many years. Constant companions completely devoted to one another, they enjoyed a vast number of activities and adventures: tennis, golf, flying, snow skiing, traveling, TCU sports, and investing their time and resources in supporting Christian ministries. Although the void is immense for her family, Norma has entered into eternal glory with her Lord and Savior and receiving her heavenly rewards for being His faithful servant. Her love and prayers will live on in our hearts for generations to come. The family would like to offer special thanks to Dr. Allan Kelly, the staff of Homewatch Caregivers, and Covenant Care Hospice for their kind and loving care. Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Dan Ellis, and daughter, Roxie Ellis.
