Norma Ailene Ratts Obituary
Norma Ailene Laughlin Ratts, 88, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 1, 2014, in Colleyville. Norma was a Christian and a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church of North Richland Hills. Graveside service: 11 a.m. Saturday, May 10, in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park. Visitation: 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at Shady Grove Baptist Church in North Richland Hills. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the or Grace Hospice. Norma was born Aug. 14, 1925, in Abilene, Kan., to Ralph and Estella Laughlin. She attended Abilene public schools until her senior year. Between her junior and senior year, her family moved to Excelsior Springs, Mo., where she graduated from high school, class of 1943. Her major courses were business. In the summer of 1944 her father accepted a job in Manhattan, Kan. During the time she lived in Excelsior Springs, she accepted a scholarship to Juilliard School of Music to study voice. After moving to Manhattan she studied voice at Kansas State University. Norma and Bob traveled a lot, to every state in the United States and every continent except Antarctica. When Bob formed his own petroleum company, Norma was his secretary. After their children were married, Norma accompanied Bob many times to the oil patch where she did needlework while Bob got the well work completed. She was preceded in death by an infant grandson, J.J. Idol. Survivors: Loving husband, Bob Ratts; son, James Ratts and wife, Susan; daughter, Barbara Idol and husband, Bob; and grandson, David, who is a lance corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps. We have three engineers and one Marine in the family.
