Jerry Reid Adams Obituary
Jerry Reid Adams passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2014. Funeral: 2 p.m. Sunday in Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen. Interment: with military honors in Wilson Chapel Cemetery in McKinney. Visitation: The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home. Jerry was born May 28, 1932, in Barbour County, Ala. He was the son of Odie Reid Adams and Alma Scroggins Adams. In 1953 Jerry Adams and Jeanetta Mozell Honea were married in McKinney. Jerry served in the United States Air Force from 1949 to 1969. He was an aircraft and engine technician and an instructor. He was stationed at many Air Force bases in the States and also in Korea, Japan and Thailand. He and Jeanetta have many lasting friendships throughout the United States. Jerry was an aircraft maintenance instructor at Tarrant County College from 1977 to 1992. He was also an automotive maintenance technician for four years. Jerry served as a member of the Watauga City Council for several terms and served on various boards and committees in the city. After retirement, Jerry designed and built musical instruments such as dulcimers, hammered dulcimers, small harps and balalaikas. Our family times were enriched with Jerry's tales of his boyhood in rural Alabama. He knew many funny stories and could always make us laugh. He was proud of his working jobs in Louisville, Ala., as a boy; he delivered groceries around town on his bicycle, helped paint houses, drove a tractor at the nearby lumberyard, played football in high school and in one class helped with dipping poles in creosote. His last job before the Air Force was operating the motion picture projector in the local picture show. He was preceded in death by his parents, Odie Reid and Alma Scroggins Adams; and one brother, Howard Adams. Survivors: Wife, Jeanetta Adams of Watauga; children, Timothy Reid Adams and wife, Patricia, of Oklahoma City, Okla., Janet Brett and husband, Bob, of Fort Worth and Philip E. Adams and wife, Lynda, of Plano; grandchildren, Kristin Botello and husband, Ernest, of Moore and Joshua Reid Adams of Plano; great-grandchildren, Alex and Abby Botello; brother, Felix Adams of Dothan, Ala.; and sister, Merle Hancock and husband, Francis, of Senoia, Ga.
