Blanche McCrary Mandell Obituary
Blanche McCrary Mandell passed away Thursday, May 29, 2014, after a full life of 93 years. Service: 1 p.m. Wednesday at Thompson's Harveson & Cole. Interment: Hillcrest Park Cemetery, Waxahachie. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Thompson's Harveson & Cole. Blanche McCrary was born on Nov. 18, 1920, in Richland, daughter of the late Aubrey and Virginia Few McCrary. She graduated from Trinity University in Waxahachie with a degree in speech and English and taught fourth grade in Dawson. She moved to Galveston to work for Amoco Refinery. While there, she met James Mandell and they married in 1945. They lived in LaMarque, Texas, New York, California, Connecticut, Illinois, and Paris, France, before retiring to Fort Worth in 1978. Blanche was a member of Arborlawn United Methodist Church and the Fort Worth Newcomers. She greatly enjoyed theater, both while in New York and at Casa Manana in Fort Worth. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 45 years, James, and her 5-year-old granddaughter, Katy Checki. The family express its heartfelt thanks to the caring staff of Stonegate Nursing Center and Gentiva Hospice. Survivors: Children, Kathleen Checki, John Mandell and wife, Cathy; grandchildren, Stephanie Alexander and husband, Corey, and J.J. Checki and wife, Christa; great-grandchildren, Kory and Cameron Alexander, and Sarah, Elizabeth and Zachariah Checki.
