1928 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
Helen Jacqueline Chandler died Sunday, June 8, 2014. Graveside service: 11 a.m. Thursday in Crandall City Cemetery. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church of Grand Prairie. Visitation: The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Moore Funeral Home. Memorials: Gifts may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Grand Prairie, 310 SW Third St., Grand Prairie, Texas 75051; or Brighter Tomorrows, Box 532151, Grand Prairie, Texas 75053. Jackie was born Aug. 11, 1928, in Forney. She graduated from Crandall High School and attended UT Arlington where she met her future husband, Lindy Chandler. They married in 1947. In 1972, she joined her husband working in the food brokerage business that he had established. Today, the business is owned and operated by her sons and grandsons. Jackie was an active member of her community and church. She and her husband joined Wynnewood Presbyterian Church in Dallas in 1953. In 1980, they joined First Presbyterian Church in Grand Prairie, where she served as an elder and teacher. She was on the board of directors of Brighter Tomorrows (domestic abuse shelters) for many years. She was presented with the Women in History award in 2002 by Soroptimist International. In 2004, she was awarded the Doris Black award for her work benefiting women and children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lindy; parents, Kenneth Crawford Fowler and Dorothy Wonnie Fowler; brothers-in-law, Tom Chandler and G.W. Chandler; and sister-in-law, Grace Fair. Survivors: Sons, Gary and wife, Karla, and Chris and wife, Rosie; daughters, Linda Johnson and Myra Pruitt and husband, Dr. Sid Pruitt; sister-in-law, Willowdean Chandler; grandchildren, Julie Pool and husband, Dr. Jeff Pool, Matthew Johnson and wife, Sarah, Jaclyn Hagarty and husband, Dr. Darren Hagarty, Clint Chandler, Colin Chandler and wife, Kelli, Chandler Pruitt, Sidney Pruitt, Alexander Pruitt and Molly Pruitt; stepgrandsons, Tommy Fernandez and David Fernandez; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
