Charles Simmons Obituary
Charles Edward Simmons, 70, passed away peacefully at home from brain cancer surrounded by his family and into his heavenly Father's arms Thursday, July 31, 2014. Memorial service: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, at White's Chapel United Methodist Church in Southlake. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Charles' name to the or Research. Charles was born May 29, 1944, in Knoxville, Tenn., to Hobert Lee Simmons and Mary Margaret Holloway. He grew up in Knoxville, attending Central High School and then Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tenn., majoring in business. He met his love, Linda Bartlett, at Carson-Newman College. They were married July 10, 1966, in Sarasota, Fla. They recently celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary. Charles served in the Air National Guard during the Vietnam War as a lieutenant. Charles was employed by Burroughs Corp., Unisys, Productivity Point International and The Training Associates. He worked in sales, software development and managing customer education centers. Charlie's passion was golf and he loved to play with friends each week. His goal was to play in the 70s. Another passion was remodeling his house and delighted in teaching his daughters those skills. Charles was a man of great faith and integrity that never wavered. He taught Sunday school classes, worked on Habitat houses, attended men's prayer and Bible study, and ushered at services. He was a facilitator for an Alzheimer's group that met at the church. He wanted to share with others what he learned from his mother's walk with Alzheimer's. He also led monthly worship services at Atria Assisted Living and Memory Care, where his mother lived. Charles was an inspiration to his family and friends during the difficult journey with brain cancer. He cared deeply for the well-being of his wife, Linda, daughters, Loree, Cheri and Julie, and grandchildren. The Simmons family would like to thank Vitas Hospice and Home Instead for the care of Charles in the last weeks of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hobert and Mary Margaret Simmons; brother, Hobie Simmons; and uncle, George Simmons. Survivors: Wife, Linda; daughters, Loree and husband, Sonny Williams, Cheri and husband, Christopher Land, and Julie Simmons; grandchildren, Reagan Williams, and Austin and Logan Land; and aunts, Helen Miles, Ruth Yoacum and JoAnn Wells of Knoxville, Tenn.
