In loving memory of a wonderful woman and educator, who devoted her life to building a foundation of love, strength, care and concern for the good of all that passed her way. You will be greatly missed, but the values you instilled in many of us as former students and the community, will remain with all of us forever. Rest in Peace. "I.M. Terrell, Class of 1962"

Ms. Peace, even though you retired 35 years ago, you never stopped teaching your 'children'.
Many people are better adults because you gave so unselfishly of yourself.
May all the students whose lives you graced, carry with them the seeds you planted in them, so that they may also be examples in words, and actions, as 'teachers' in their daily lives, so that your legacy may be carried on into the lives of many more young children.
SALUTARE.

For the past thirty-five years as a member of Baker Chapel AME Church the light of the life of Mrs. Hazel Harvey Peace shined into my life. She was a figure of grace and tenacity. We are all better because she walked among us always in diligent awareness and service.

Every morning, our Counselor Ms. Peace would stand in the doors of I.M Terrell to greet her students as they traveled from near and far. She made sure we were dressed appropriately and had our breakfast.
She cared for all of us regardless if we were a little girl from Mansfield, Texas or a big football player from the eastside Fort Worth. Her love will remain with us until we meet her again.
We find comfort in knowing that some day when we make our way to heaven, Ms. Peace will be standing somewhere near the Pearle Gates waiting to greet us again.

Mrs Peace was impeccable in her dress, attitude, standards, character, dedication, etc and was a role model for all that came to know her. Though she was tiny, She was able to inspire fear in the heart of everyone form the smallest girl to the biggest jock and even the coaches. This was surely because what she carried on the inside shown through on the outside. She lived what she preached and as young kids, we didn't always want to hear it at the time but it planted seeds that were destined to blossom into bit of character in all of us. I am forever grateful for having known her and wish todays schools had more like her - what a better world it would be!
May she rest in peace.

Before I knew what I mentor was, Mrs. Hazel Harvey Peace was my mentor. She was the Dean of Girls during my time, and what I thought was worse (at that time) was the fact that she also belonged to our church, Baker Chapel, and she "knew my mother!" In those days, "knowing your mother" meant everything.
I so hope that Mrs. Peace's legacy (to which so many in this guest book have alluded )would "catch fire" again in these turbulent times for our young people. What a change in our ethnic world if girls and young women were modeled after her...not just her dress (ear bobs and all), but her speech, her distinctive presence, her inimitable hope for young people, and her unceasing faith in God!
She meant so much to so many, and I pray that God bestows a special blessing on Mrs. Peace as she makes this transition from her earthly to her heavenly home. My Mother is there, so tell her "I've been good!" That will mean so much.

Mrs Peace, will be missed by many generations. I spoke with her not long ago on the telephone. My daugther was caring for her and she had her to call me. I really enjoyed our conversation. Sincere Condolence to the family and friends of Mrs. Hazel Harvey Peace. This little giant has made a tremendous impact on the educational horizon of our society. At one time, there was a large population of I.M. Terrell alumni in southern California, and when the locals of Los Angeles gathered, the name of Mrs. Hazel Peace was always recalled in the stories of fond memories. The population is decreasing, yet there is still a sizable number and at the news of the passing of Mrs. Peace, many hearts were sadden. My sister and I are graduates of Como High, never meeting Mrs. Peace in person, but she taught both of our parents Annie Lois ( Baker) Miller and the late Lawson Miller, both class of 1941. We so appreciated her acknowledgement and written greetings to them, which were read at their 50th & 55th wedding anniversary celebrations. Ten years ago while visiting our family in Fort Worth, my father wanted to pay a visit to Mrs. Peace, when we arrived at her home, we were told, " her car is not here, that means she's out" . WOW ! That was just amazing to us that she was out driving. From all that we have heard, Mrs. Peace was an amazing lady. On behalf of many students she taught, touched, and outlived, and my mother and others who still remain... we are thankful for one Hazel Harvey Peace and pray the God of our Fathers to comfort all of you.

During a lifetime so many people touch our lives, but none will be remembered like Ms Peace. As a student at IM Terrell, I remember her larger than life presence, she was tiny but had a gigantic impact on all. "Mrs. Peace's Opus"
What Is An Opus?
A Creative Work
A musical Composition
A composer sets forth on five lines and four spaces, notes, flates and sharps. That become a musical compositon. The sole purpose of the composition is to MOTIVATE the musician and AROUSE, PROVOKE and STIMULATE the listener. YOU have been like the metronome, a device that marks time at precise intervals. By your life's example, YOU have been PRECISE and TIMELY in setting the standards for how one must rise to the occasion. In adherence to that standard, We have become your "OPUS". We are the MELODIES and NOTES of YOUR EFFORTS. We are the MUSIC OF YOUR LABOR. "WE ARE YOUR SYMPHONY"

I am blessed, honored and thankful for the privilege of being a student under the leadership of Mrs. Peace during my years at I. M. Terrell High School.
I am grateful for her guidance, expectations, words of encouragement, understanding, patience, support and help during those years.
Any success that I have enjoyed during my life time can be attributed, in part, to her and the other teachers at Carver and I. M. Terrell.
Mrs Peace touched and shaped the lives of students from all over Fort Worth and surrounding communities/towns. As an educator, mentor and role model she left a lasting impression upon many of our lives; my life is one of them. I will always cherish the memories of I. M. Terrell High School. I would like to send my deep condolence out to family, friends, and the graduating class of 1973 @ I. M. Terrell High School. Not a lot people would keep it as real as Mrs. Peace. We have all enjoyed her authority as we watched it change. She moved from the role of decision-maker and discipline-enforcer to confidante, cheerleader, and champion. She was very much loved for all of the laughter that she provided throughout her life. May God bless her family to stay strong during this loss, and may I add I feel your pain. It was a great loss for the I. M. Terrell family as well, but she will always be remembered and will remain alive in our hearts. Rest In Peace, you will be missed.

We would like to send our heartfelt sympathy and deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mrs. Peace. She touched our family in numerous ways by being an educator to many of our family members, as well as a special family friend in Christ through Baker Chapel A.M.E. Church. Mrs. Peace demonstrated to everyone that it doesn't matter your numerical age, you can accomplish anything that you set your heart and mind to do. She was a great educator with a wonderful disposition, a sharp tongue, and a very firm disciplinarian. Her warm and caring spirit will be greatly missed by everyone.

Ms Peace was near and dear to all her former students. When I graduated G. W. Carver Jr. Hi School, Ms Peace was our guest speaker at our Jr. Hi comencement exercises and I had to introduce her. Her reputation preceded her, because I already knew all about her before being promoted to I.M.Terrell where I would attend the upcoming fall. The West African proverb (made popular by President T. Roosevelt), "Speak softly and carry a big stick, you will go far," speaks volumes of the lifeswork of Ms H.H. Peace. Did she ever weight as much as 100 pounds? Yet when she walked the halls of I.M. Terrell for decades, everyone listened, if not trembled. May we join the thousands of former students who feel blessed having known Ms Peace and come under her influence. God must need a new "Dean of Angels!"
There is no end to her goodness, so we just say, "Well done thy good and faithful servant." from the Stein Family, Minnie '57, Glenda '61, Fred '56 (in memoria), and James '64 (in memoria).

Remember
Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann'd:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.

In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

I was one of the children who grew up on Terrell Avenue, attended I. M. Terrell H. S. and Baker Chapel AME Church where Hazel Harvey Peace reigned supreme. Yes, she watched over us and didn't mind reporting whaever we did - good or bad - to our parents. She always encouraged us to grow into strong successful adults and in later years exhibited much pride in our successes. Mrs. Peace was a legend in her own time and will surely be missed in the city of Fort Worth. Now that she has gone to a well deserved reward, may those who's lives were touched by this outstanding woman remember and continue to live as she did. May she rest in peace.

For a Very Distingushed Lady that has gone to Heaven. For I am what is considered a youngster BUT I can tell you that this lady touched us as well she was a pillar of my church Baker Chapel AME Church and she instilled in all of us honesty learning all that could be comprehened and with understanding she was one that believed that it takes a village to raise the children and she showed that with time and patience in our community of the South Side she had no fear in that little frame of hers. I do truely appreciate things that she did do as dean of the girls @ IM Terrell for she had a handle on my mom and all her siblings if they got out of line she tightened them up quickly. Thanks for all that you have done and set up for all to expand knowledge. Heaven is very Educated at this moment.

When I first met Ms. Peace I was struck by her grace and beauty. I quickly learned that while she was as sweet a woman as there could ever be, she was also extremely tough! She would rap her knuckles on the table to get everyones attention and we would move on to business! I have become so much richer for knowing her and cherish the times we spent on neighborhood meetings. She became a lighthouse of positive thoughts and I thank God for the pleasure of knowing her! Back in the days when I.M.Terrell was the only black high school in Ft. Worth and children from all over the city as well as surrounding towns gathered to recieve a high school education I met Mrs Peace. Mrs Peace as an administrator was superb. She was kind, understanding, and sympathetic. To say that she was a no nonsense person when it came to dealing with students who chose to not confom to the rules and regulations, is to put it lightly. When I look back on it as I later became an educator it never ceases to amaze me how she singlhanded kept things straight with the help of the other faculty and administators. Indeed you will be missed Mrs. Peace; howeer, you have earned your rest. Sleep and take your rest in the shepherd's arms.

Mrs. Peace as I called her in the neighborhood, a very loving and giving person. Seeing that we lived across the street, directly in front of her side door, she could tell you what all was going on in your house and everywhere else in our area. Mrs. Peace and my grand-parents Ella Mae and John Albert Echols friendship went way back in the late30'. She earned the respected of the community especailly the kids on Terrell Ave. If you went to the old gold and blue, I.M. Terrell, if you were in trouble, classwork or etc., she knew all about it and your parents did too, before your got home. Mrs.Peace counsel all of us on Terrell Ave.we were her family. She talked to us about how important education was for Blacks, job future , marriage, family and church. I love her very much and will miss her dearly. This time last year, my family and I had visit her and she was always glad to see my mother and especially my kids Kendra and Kenneth Perry and would asked about my mother-in law, Maureen Johnson Perry and was very sorry to hear about her death. She was very proud of me and what I had instill in my kids as children and now adults. She will always hold a very special place in my heart and as mother and beloved sorority sister of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. found at Howard Unversity, Washington, D.C. and we will be celebrating 100 years of service in July '08 the same age is she, what do you say about that. Her legacy will live on in each one of the lives she touched throughout her 50 years of service. Not being from Fort Worth to experience Mrs. Peace as a student, I met and learned to love her in Baker Chapel A.M.E. Church. She was a constant encourager and she will be missed.

Mrs. Peace will never be forgotten! She lived life to the fullest, and did her very best her entire life for the students she cherished. She was the "Dean of Girls" at I. M. Terrell in the year of 1955, and I can truly say she was always on the job. Thank you my Dear Mrs. Peace. God rest your soul! (Class of 1955)
