Johnnie P. Crisp Obituary
Johnnie "John" P. Crisp, 84, a retired U.S. Air Force lieutenant colonel, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 2, 2013. Service: 12:30 p.m. Saturday in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Chapel. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home. John was born June 18, 1928, to Jeff Crisp Sr. and Ella Mae Dickerson in Green, Ky. He grew up in Elliott County near Sandy Hook and graduated with the class of '47. He pursued his career in the U.S. Air Force. John enlisted as a private later becoming an officer and command pilot. He flew B-52s on 180 missions in Vietnam and was awarded the Air Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross. While stationed in Fort Worth, he met the love of his life, Retha Choat, an airline stewardess. After a four-year courtship they were married in 1957. Following his military retirement, they made their home in the Fort Worth area. John and Retha became successful real estate brokers for 22 years. John loved the outdoors, often fishing, hunting, boating, camping and growing large vegetable gardens. John cherished his wife and throughout their retirement years they traveled together. He loved attending the Tobacco Festival in Sandy Hook. John also attended White's Chapel United Methodist Church. John's fondest thoughts about life go back to the beginnings where hardworking, honest, moral and decent people taught him the basics of survival and taking advantage of the great opportunities offered to those who seek to get the most out of life. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jeff Crisp Jr. and Roger Gale Crisp; and sister, Gloria Jean. Survivors: Wife of 56 years, Retha; children, Scott Crisp and wife, Tina, and their son, Jake; daughter, Kelly Irvine and husband, Mathew, and their son, Josh Lee; brother, Bert Crisp and wife, Helen; brother, Don Crisp and wife, Luz; and many other loving family members.
