Onah Astin Barwise Penn, 82, died peacefully Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at home, surrounded by her family. Memorial service: 3 p.m. Saturday at All Saints Episcopal Church; the homily will be given by the Rt. Rev. Sam B. Hulsey. She will be laid to rest in a private burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations in her memory be made to The Humane Society of North Texas, 1840 E Lancaster Ave., Fort Worth, Texas 76103; All Saints Episcopal Church, 5001 Crestline Road, Fort Worth, Texas 76107; or Baylor All Saints Health Foundation, 1400 Eighth Ave., Fort Worth, Texas 76107. Onah Barwise was born Dec. 10, 1930, in Fort Worth to Seth Barwise and Onah Astin Barwise. She attended North Hi Mount Elementary School, where her mother planted the two magnolia trees that now grace the school's front lawn. She graduated from St. Mary's Hall in San Antonio in 1948 and from the University of Texas in 1952. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. A lifelong lover of all animals, great and small, she served on the board of the Fort Worth Zoo and supported numerous organizations dedicated to dog rescue and adoption. Mrs. Penn loved the outdoors and was an avid sportswoman: She was a competitive tournament golfer, a champion wing shot and a trophy-winning sailor. She also served on the boards of the YWCA and the All Church Home and was a member of the St. Mary's Hall Alumnae Board of Trustees. She was a member of The Assembly, The Junior League, River Crest Country Club, the Fort Worth Boat Club, the Fort Worth Lecture Foundation and All Saints Episcopal Church. She will be forever remembered as kind and fun-loving and as one who always put others before herself. Survivors: She is survived by her greatest joys in life, daughter, Onah Wiley and husband, Stan; daughter, Margaret Farrell and husband, Porter; grandchildren, Matthew Wiley and wife, Tracy, Hudson Wiley and wife, Carol, Margo Tennison, Courtney Tennison and Callie Tennison; great-grandchildren, Brayden and Rayne Wiley; and her loyal dog, Bingo. She is also survived by her sister, Betty Barwise McLean and husband, Buck; and niece, Anseth Page Richards and husband, Keith, and their family.
