Claude Alan Wilson Obituary
Claude Alan Wilson, 71, died peacefully Saturday, July 13, 2013. Memorial service: 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, in Greenwood Chapel. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Memorials: St. Paul's Center for Hope and Healing, 217 Union St., Cary, N.C. 27511; the North Carolina Zoo, 4401 Zoo Parkway, Asheboro, N.C. 27205; or a . Born on June 3, 1942, in Fort Worth, Claude Alan Wilson was the son of Margaret Arthur Wilson and Alan Waller Wilson. He died July 13, 2013, in Raleigh, N.C., after a prolonged battle with Parkinson's disease. Even as the disease robbed him of his ability to do things, he still retained his dignity and sense of humor. He was a kind, caring man whose generosity will be fondly remembered by many. Claude attended TCU where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon. He transferred to the University of Texas at Austin where he completed a degree in mechanical engineering and was offered jobs by both NASA and Reynolds Aluminum. He chose Reynolds because it meant that he would be able to see the world. During his 35 years at Reynolds, he moved many times, including to Hamburg, Germany, Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He fished in the Orinoco River in Venezuela, and danced at Rio's Carnival. Claude loved hunting, fishing, cooking and doing home repairs. He owned a bird dog that was better at eating birds than pointing at them. His wife named his stuffed deer "Rudolph," which hung, proudly, in the living room. He firmly believed that whatever you caught you ate, which made for some interesting family meals. Numerous home repairs involved Great Stuff, a hammer or duct tape, in true Wilson family style. Claude's beloved wife of 47 years, Lorraine Velte Wilson, died of multiple sclerosis in 2011. Survivors: Son, David Alan Wilson and his wife, Jeannie, of Tampa, Fla.; daughter, Haley Lynn Wilson Gray and her husband, Richard, and their children, Laura Gray, Xena Gray, David Gray and Ivan Gray; his sister, Jerre Wilson Tracy and her husband, David, of Fort Worth; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
