John Pannill Camp Obituary
John Pannill Camp, 87, passed away Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, after a brief illness. Service: 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, followed by a reception at River Crest Country Club. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Thompson's Harveson & Cole. Memorials: Should friends desire, memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be given to an organization that assists returning veterans, such as the Wounded Warrior Project or NOWZAD. John was born Oct. 13, 1925, in Fort Worth, the sole child of John L. and Martha Pannill Camp. He volunteered for the Navy in 1942 at age 17 and served as a gunner in PBYs and Avengers in World War II. After the war he graduated from Baylor University and attended Baylor University School of Law. He was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in September 1950 and practiced law in Abilene and Fort Worth until his death. In the course of his practice, John earned considerable renown as a trial lawyer and his services were sought all over Texas. John was invited to be a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers and the International College of Trial Lawyers. He received the Fort Worth Bar's prestigious Blackstone Award and was a member of the Texas Bar Foundation and the Texas Associaton of Defense Counsel. John also received the Liberty Bell Award. A celebrated raconteur, John was a frequent lecturer at State Bar Continuing Legal Education events. When not practicing law, John was a member of various civic and social organizations. John was preceded in death by his wife, Natilynne, and two sons, John Jr. and William Warren. Survivors: Daughters, Martha Weatherl and Jeanna Camp; sons, Harman Camp, Robert Warren and Murray Camp; grandchildren, John Pannill Camp III, Virginia McElroy, Katy Camp, Andrew Weatherl, Emily Camp, Melissa Camp, Annie McBride, Margaret Warren, Samantha Camp and Harrison Camp; great-grandchildren, Grey McBride, Nora McElroy, Lucy McBride, Finn McBride and June Camp; his special friend, Olivia Bernabei; and loving cousins and numerous friends.
