Sharon Kay Chadwick Obituary
Sharon Kay Chadwick, 70, passed away Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, giving her soul to the Lord after a long battle with cancer. Memorial service: 3 p.m. Friday at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington. Kay was born in Oklahoma City, Okla., on Dec. 20, 1942, during the height of World War II while her father was serving in the Army Air Corps as a pilot. Kay was a longtime resident of Arlington, having moved to the city in 1966. During her life there, she had a career in real estate during the city's enormous growth and made many lifelong friends in the community. Midlife, she changed vocations and began a career with the University of Texas at Arlington's financial aid department. She worked there for almost 30 years, first in the short-term loan department, happily helping students who needed a little extra assistance, and then with the guaranteed student loan department, helping many fulfill their dreams of a college education. She even found time to complete her degree with a bachelor's degree in business from UTA at the age of 51! She was an avid cook and a devoted grandmother, and enjoyed spending time with her family. She was known for her great humor, intelligence and strong independence. She was preceded in death by her mother, Margie Graham Chadwick, and father, Ralph M. Chadwick. Survivors: Daughter, Jennifer McCall Young and husband, Dr. David Young, and their children, John Dawson Young and Madeline Rose Young; and son, Dr. Miles "Chip" Mahan and wife, Susan McCord Mahan, and their children, Stephanie Kay Mahan, Kelly Michelle Mahan and Justin David Mahan.
