Duane S. Borden Obituary
Duane S. Borden, a retired technical illustrator, died peacefully at his home Sunday afternoon, Oct. 20, 2013, during his 88th year, following a brief illness. Service: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3621 Tulsa Way. A reception will be held in the church's Fellowship Hall immediately after military honors in Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: Family and friends will gather 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Great Room at Robertson Mueller Harper. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to Trinity Lutheran Church or to a , in his memory, is suggested. Born in Elkton, Md., on May 26, 1925, Duane was the son of Edward Asa and Carrie Borden. In his youth, he enjoyed working in his father's garage business. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army, 15th Air Force, as a tail gunner on a B-24 Liberator that the Germans shot down over Yugoslavia. Parachuting down, the entire crew survived but were taken prisoners and released at the war's end. After the war, Duane graduated from Ohio State University and worked as a technical illustrator for General Dynamics in Fort Worth and later at Harris Data Communications in Addison. He also free-lanced as an artist. Duane enjoyed photography, travel and square dancing and never outgrew his love for cars. He was a member of an antique auto club whose cars were used in the movie "Bonnie and Clyde," actually driving one of the cars. He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Leslie Flores; brother, Edward Charles Borden; a niece; a nephew; and several cousins. Survivors: In addition to his wife, Duane is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Barbara and Vincent Flores and Becky Singer; grandchildren, Theresa and Sofia Flores and Natalie and Myles Singer; sister, Roberta Pfaffenberger; and nieces and nephews and their families.
