Interment: Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas. She was born Nov. 27, 1926, in Moultrie, Ga., to a local farmer and his wife, George L. and Eva Leona Phelps Taylor. She was one of six children. Gloria graduated from Moultrie High School. Then she moved to Atlanta to work as a secretary for the U.S. Army at Fort McPherson; there she met a young Army captain, Herman L. Alley. They were married at a chapel in Fort Benning, Ga., on Aug. 17, 1946. This simple Georgia farm girl traveled to places she never dreamed of going with her career military officer husband. She entertained ambassadors, other dignitaries and military families from around the world, including Germany, Japan, Israel, the Netherlands, Italy and Saudi Arabia, to name a few. They lived many years in El Paso, were stationed in Alaska and in retirement lived in Texas, Alabama and then back to Texas. Gloria was a lovely and gracious wife and mother who loved the piano, dancing, beautiful clothes and cooking. She and her husband participated in antique car clubs both in El Paso and in Brownwood. She and her husband were founding members of the Fort Bliss Saddle Club in El Paso, owned and rode horses, and enjoyed many adventures with their four children, two daughters and two sons. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and many other family members. Survivors: Son and daughter-in-law, Harold F. Alley and Lynn Hall-Alley of Arlington; daughter, Kathryn Gloria Letcher of Artesia, N.M.; son and daughter-in-law, Herman L.
