Lloyd Scurlock Obituary
Lloyd Scurlock, 80, passed away Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013. Memorial service: 2 p.m. Wednesday at University Christian Church. Memorials: North Central Texas; Gentry Shelton Music Fund at University Christian Church. Lloyd was born on Dec. 6, 1933, at All Saints' Hospital in Fort Worth. He went to school at Alice E. Carlson, McLean Junior High School, and graduated from R.L. Paschal High School. Lloyd attended TCU for two years and transferred to University of Texas to receive his B.A. and law degrees there. He had met his future wife one summer on a TCU tour of Europe, and they married three years later in 1956 before his final year of law school. After the Army he joined the law firm of Rawlings, Sayers, Scurlock and Eidson. His interests were wide-books, music (especially piano), history, politics, TCU and UT. He was active in the Friends of the TCU Library, the English-Speaking Union, the Trailblazers Square Dance Club, the Fort Worth ISD Literacy Council, and the Breakfast Optimist Club, Ridglea Swimming Pool Association, the Richard, III Society, and was State Democratic Executive Committeeman for 3 terms. He was active at University Christian Church serving as elder, Sunday School teacher for 31 years, playing in the Ad Deum Handbell Choir and being a beefeater in the Boar's Head and Yule Log Festival. As a senior at Paschal he competed in the citywide piano competition and won the Leo Potishman award playing the first movement of the Grieg Piano Concerto. Lloyd was a Eagle Scout. He loved traveling...especially in England and Greece. After he retired from his law practice, he went to Brite Divinity School at TCU and received his master's of theological studies degree. He never enjoyed school as much as he did then. The family is grateful for the loving care given by Health Care Center at Trinity Terrace and Odyssey Hospice. Survivors: Wife of 57 years, Sue; daughters, Cindy Adams and husband, Brian, Carol Montague and husband, Mark; and grandchildren, Rhys Adams and Emily Montague.
