William Joseph Wheaton Obituary
Retired U.S. Navy ETCS (SW) Senior Chief Petty Officer William Joseph Wheaton, 47, died Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at his residence. Memorial service: Private service at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery with full military honors. Interment will follow. Memorials: Donations may be made to the local Support Our Soldiers Organization. William "Bill" was born in Windham, Conn., on March 29, 1966, to John F. Wheaton and Claire C. Leiper. He was raised in Fort Worth and graduated from Western Hills High School. Bill enlisted in the United States Navy in December of 1989 to begin what would become a 21-year career. Bill served on the USS Peleliu and the USS Cleveland as an electronic technician. He went on to become an instructor in San Diego where he provided technical training for fleet personnel and he also provided direct support to fleet commanders. In May of 2004, Bill was hand chosen to serve on the X-Craft/Sea Fighter FSF-1 as a senior enlisted advisor. His last Navy assignment was as Fleet Technical Assist LCPO. A few of his personal awards include three Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, three Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, six Good Conduct Awards. Following his retirement, Bill received his B.S. degree in information systems from Strayer University. He loved the water, golfing, camping and fishing. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, and his father, John F. Wheaton. Survivors: Bill leaves behind his devoted mother, Claire C. Leiper and her husband, Jim; stepmother, Holly Reichart-Wheaton of East Hampton, N.Y.; brother, Michael Wheaton and his wife, Sandee; sister, Shelly Wheaton; nieces, Taylor and Paige Wheaton.
