F.A. "Buddy" Bird Obituary
F.A. "Buddy" Bird, 92, passed away Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at an Abilene hospital. Funeral: 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Lucas & Blessing Funeral Home Chapel, 518 SW Johnson Ave., Burleson. Burial will be in Laurel Land Memorial Park, 7100 Crowley Road, Fort Worth 76134, under the direction of Bailey-Howard Funeral Home of Clyde. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kan., 66675. Buddy was born in Fort Worth on May 8, 1921, to Jessie and Minnie Bird. He served during World War II with the 2nd Marine Division in the South Pacific from 1940 to 1945. He retired from the Fort Worth Fire Department in 1981 to Possum Kingdom Lake. He had lived on his daughter's ranch in Woodson for the past 12 years. Buddy was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Johnston Bird, in 1987; his brother, Terrell Bird; and his sister, Hazel Byrd. Survivors: Buddy is survived by sons, Les Bird and wife, Melanie, of Skiatook, Okla., Rex Bird and wife, Helen, of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Mark Bird and wife, Debbie, of Graford; daughter, Aletha Creech and husband, Eugene, of Abilene; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
